Privacy policy
Short version: we collect as little as we can. If you join the email list we keep your email address to send you the prompt pack and the occasional email. The writing tools on this site don’t save or send anything you type.
Who we are
Mud Settles is run by Mike Arnold, a sole trader based in the UK, who is the data controller for this site. You can reach us at hello@mudsettles.com.
What we collect and why
- Your email address, if you sign up. We use it to send you the free prompt pack and occasional emails about new guides and prompts. The legal basis is your consent, which you give by confirming your sign-up. You can unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of any email.
- Emails you send us. If you write to us, we keep the conversation so we can reply. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.
- Anonymous visit statistics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t identify you; visitor sessions are discarded after 24 hours.
What we don’t collect
The brain dump tool, the prompt generator’s writing box and any other writing space on this site work entirely in your browser. What you type is never saved on our servers or sent to anyone. When you close or refresh the page, it’s gone.
We don’t sell your data, and we don’t currently show advertising.
Affiliate links
Some pages link to products on Amazon and other stores as an affiliate, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something. Our site doesn’t set cookies for these links. When you click one, the store may set its own cookies on its own site to record the referral, under its own privacy policy. See our affiliate disclosure for how we choose what to recommend.
Who helps us run the site
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) stores the email list and sends our emails. Kit’s privacy policy.
- Vercel hosts the website and provides the anonymous analytics. Vercel’s privacy policy.
Both companies are based in the United States, so your data may be processed outside the UK. We only use providers that commit to protecting it to UK standards.
How long we keep it
Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe. After that we keep only what we need to make sure we don’t email you again. Emails you send us are kept for up to two years.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. Email hello@mudsettles.com and we’ll reply within a month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Changes
If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If we ever start showing ads that use cookies, we’ll ask for your consent first.
