How we make money from recommendations
Short version: some pages on Mud Settles link to products on Amazon and other stores. If you buy something through one of those links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay anything extra, and it never changes what we recommend.
Which links earn us money?
Only links on pages that say so. Any page with affiliate links has a box at the top marked Ad, and every store button carries a small “Ad · paid links” label next to it. Links in our journaling guides, prompts and tools don’t earn us anything unless they’re marked this way.
We’re setting up our first affiliate partnerships. Until they’re active, store links on this site don’t earn us anything, and this page will be updated when that changes.
How do we choose what to recommend?
- Hands-on first. Pens, notebooks and other gear marked “Tested by Mike” were bought and used by Mike Arnold, who runs the site. The photos on those pages are his.
- No paid placements. Brands can’t pay to be included in a list or to change where they appear in it.
- Downsides included. Every product card says who it’s good for and who should skip it.
- Gift ideas are labeled as ideas. If something appears in a gift guide without the “Tested by Mike” label, we haven’t tested it ourselves, and the page says why we included it.
Why don’t you show prices?
Prices on Amazon change often, and Amazon’s rules don’t allow us to show prices we’ve copied by hand. The buttons take you to the current price on Amazon US or Amazon UK.
Do affiliate links track me?
Our site doesn’t set cookies for affiliate links. When you click one, the store (for example, Amazon) may set its own cookies on its own site to record that you came from us. That’s covered by the store’s privacy policy. There’s more in our privacy policy.
Sponsored posts and advertising
We don’t publish sponsored posts. If we ever do, they’ll be clearly labeled as ads at the top. Advertising on the site is covered on the advertise page.
